Hi South Bay Transitioners,

TSB-LA is happy to announce the first of a series of weekend re-skilling workshops!

This will be a two part weekend QUILTING workshop will be taught by master quilter Phyllis Mullins who comes from a long line of quilters that includes her grandfather! She co-owned a quilting store in Bend Oregon before moving back to her home town of Napa Valley where she and her mother have continued to make quilts for their family and clients.

She will lead us to create by hand (1) Twin size quilt to be donated to a local shelter! Fabric will be cotton clothing collected from local thrift stores or unwanted cotton items donated from your closets (old sheets work great)! All buttons and zippers will be stripped off of clothing and saved for a later use. The goal is to have each person make at least one 4 patch square for the quilt. We will need both solids and patterned items. Once the group feels competent with the basics they can then move on to putting together their own top and the group can continue to meet once a month and help quilt the tops in a frame.

Day One:
Focus will be on quilting basics starting w/ how to make a “4 patch quilt” top. Learning the following skills:

•How to cut a square using a rotary cutter
•How to cut a square with a handmade paper pattern
•How to measure and lay out blocks
•How to sew blocks into a pattern

Day Two:
•Complete putting top together
•Place quilt in frame and learn who to do a simple “Tack Top”

WHERE: Pacific Unitarian Church
